TRANSITION FROM OLD SYLLABUS TO
REVISED SYLLABUS
1.1
The existing syllabi for AMIETE/DipIETE (all streams) have been revised and upgraded. The
revised syllabi have been implemented w.e.f June
2009
examination.
1.2
The old syllabi will be discontinued
after Dec 2010 examinations. The students not clearing their AMIETE/DipIETE examinations under old syllabi will automatically
stand transferred to revised syllabi after Dec 2010 examinations.
1.3 Revised syllabus consist of 20 theory
papers, four Lab Examinations, Seminar, Project and one paper on Communication
skills and Technical writing.
Accordingly, a student transiting from old syllabi to revised syllabi shall have to meet the criteria of revised syllabi. However, any paper passed in the old syllabi will be counted in the revised syllabi and thus a student in general, may not be required to pass more than 20 theory papers. Only in exceptional cases as given in the examples, a student may be required to do the additional paper. Similarly, in Lab Examination also a student will not be required to do the Lab Examination which he has done in the old syllabi depending upon stream of the student.
General Guidelines
1.4 The
revised syllabi is more student friendly. To help the
students for their smooth transition from old syllabi, to revised syllabi the
following procedure shall be adopted.
(a) A list of equivalent subjects of old syllabi
vis-à-vis subjects of revised syllabi is given at Appendix
B,C & D for AMIETE
and Appendix
E & F for DipIETE.
(b) For those subjects having one to one
equivalence in the two syllabi, the subjects already passed/exempted under old syllabi will be deemed to
have passed in the revised syllabi also.
(c) The revised syllabi consist of core subjects
and non core subjects in each part. It is mandatory to pass all the core
subjects whether transiting from old syllabi to revised syllabi or perusing
only the revised syllabi.
(d)
If a student has passed a subject in old
syllabi which is equivalent to core subject in the revised syllabi, he would be
considered to have
passed the subject and will not be required to appear that
subject again. Similarly if a subject passed in the old syllabi is equivalent
to a non-core subject in the revised syllabi, he will not be required to re
appear for the same and it will be considered as having passed in the revised
syllabi. However, in those cases where a subject passed in old syllabi is
having no equivalence in the revised syllabi a student will be given credit, in
the relevant part for non-core subject only.
(e) In very few cases where a student has been
found to have completed core or non core subject of a part and in addition has
done some subjects which are not there
in the revised syllabi, such subjects will be shown as additional subjects. In
such cases, for calculating overall grading, the best subjects will be taken
whether they may be core, non-core or non equivalent subjects.
(f) Where the two subjects from the old syllabus
have been merged into a new subject in the revised syllabi, a student having
passed both the subjects under old syllabi will be given credit of having
passed, two papers. In case, only one subject out of two in the old syllabi has
been passed the candidate shall have to pass the other subject before Dec 2010 exam, otherwise he
will have to appear for merged subject.
In this case, the one subject passed in old syllabi will be shown as
additional subject and shall not count towards CGPA.
(g) An elective paper under old or revised
syllabi will be treated as an elective and a student will not be required to
appear in any additional elective paper. However, from Dec 2010 onwards, no
examination will be conducted for Elective subjects existing in the old
syllabi. Thereafter the student shall
have to select and appear for the elective subjects from the list of Electives
given in the revised syllabi.
(h) In such cases where an elective subject in
old syllabi has been made a compulsory subject in the revised syllabi, a
student having passed such elective subject will deemed to have passed the
compulsory paper in revised syllabi. These students will be required to pass
elective subjects of the revised syllabi.
(j) Project and Seminar if passed in the
old syllabi will be treated as having passed in the revised syllabi also.
(k) Lab–DipIETE(ET) Lab-I (DL01) of old syllabus has not
been granted any equivalent Lab in the revised syllabus therefore students will
have to pass lab-I (DE91) in the revised syllabus even if he/she has passed
Lab-I in the old syllabus. Similarly Lab-II (DL02/DE19) of old syllabus has
been granted equivalent to Lab-II (DE92) and Lab-IV (DE94). Therefore, those
who have passed Lab-II of old syllabus will be exempted in DE92 and DE94 of the
revised syllabus.
(l) Lab–DipIETE(CS) Lab-I
(DL01) has not been granted any equivalent lab in the revised syllabus.
Students have to pass Lab-I in all cases. Those who have pass Lab-II
(DL02/DC19) will be exempted in DC91 and DC94 as Lab-II (old syllabus) has been granted
equivalent to DC91 and DC94.
(m) Lab AMIETE(ET) Lab-I(AL01)
of old scheme has been granted equivalence to
Lab-I (AE91) in the revised syllabi.
Similarly Lab-II (AL02 of old scheme) has been granted equivalence to
AE94. Therefore a student shall have to do Lab-II (AE92) and Lab-III ( AE93) even if he has done Lab-I and Lab-II in the old
scheme.
(n) Lab AMIETE(CS/IT)
In these two streams also the student has to essentially do two Labs i.e. AC93
and AC94. Lab-I (AL01) of old scheme is equivalent to
Lab-I (AC91) of revised syllabi. Similarly Lab-II (AL02) is equivalent to
Lab-II (AC92) there is no equivalence for AC93 & AC94 which a student will
have to do in the revised syllabi.
2.1 Example
1
Suppose
a student of AMIETE (ET) has passed the following 16
subjects under old Syllabi.
(a) Core
subjects 16
AE01,
AE02, AE03, AE04,
AE05,
AE06,AE07, AE08,
AE09,
AE10, AE11, AE12,
AE13,
AE14, AE15, AE16.
(b) Elective -
Nil
(c) Lab Exam - 1
(AL01)
·
In this case all subjects have an equivalency
in the revised syllabi except AE02,AE03,AE07 and AE13.
The transition
will be worked out as under.
(a) The candidate will be exempted from appearing
in Lab-I(AE91) of the revised syllabi as Lab-I under
old syllabi (AL01) is equivalent to AE91. The student will have to do Lab-II
(AE-92), Lab-III (AE93) and Lab-IV (AE94) in the revised syllabi.
(b) (i) Total No of subjects to be passed under
revised Syllabi
20
(ii) Total
no of subject passed by the candidate
under old Syllabi
16
(iii)
Balance
subject to be passed to complete AMIETE
4
(c)
(i) Core subjects to be
passed under revised syllabi
12
(ii) Core
subjects passed by the candidate in old
scheme and have equivalency in revised syllabi 8
(iii)
Balance
Core subjects to be passed
4
·
Though the student has to pass four more
subjects to complete 20 subjects but since he/she has not passed elective
papers, the student shall have to pass four remaining core courses and
two electives to complete AMIETE. Thus in this case the student shall have to
pass 22 subjects. Two subjects that do not exist in the revised syllabi will be
reflected as additional papers.
·
In
addition to above the student has to pass a paper in communication skill &
technical writing, Project & Seminar.
2.2 Example 2
·
Suppose a
candidate of AMIETE (ET) has passed the following papers under old
syllabi.
(a) Core subjects -
14
AE01, AE02, AE04, AD05, AE07,
AE09, AE10, AE11,AE12,AE13,
AE14, AE15, AE16, AE35, AE18,
AE36, AL01 & AL02.
(b)
Elective -(AE22)
1
(c) Lab Exam -
2
(AL01,AL02)
2.2.2 In this case AE02, AE07 and
AE13 have no equivalency in revised syllabi.
2.2.3 Following criteria will apply
for transition to revised syllabi
(a) (i) Total
No of subjects to be passed under
revised Syllabi Complete AMIETE 20
(ii) Total number of subjects passed 14+2lab
(iii) Balanced
subjects to be passed to complete
AMIETE
06
(b) (i) Core
subjects to be passed under revised
syllabi 12
(ii) Core
subjects passed by the candidate in old
scheme and have equivalency in revised syllabi 7
(iii)
Balance
Core subjects to be passed 5
(c) (i) Electives subject to be passed under
revised
syllabi 2
(ii)
Elective
passed under old syllabi
1
(iii) Balance
elective to passed
1
(iv) Balance
lab paper 3
(AE92,AE93&AE94)
2.2.4
The student has to pass six more subjects
in order to complete AMIETE out of which he has to complete five Core courses
and can attempt one elective from the list of electives in revised syllabi.
2.2.5
Lab Exam The student has passed
AL01 and AL02. In revised syllabi Lab-I (AE91) is equivalent to AL01 of old
syllabi. Also Lab-IV (AE94) is equivalent to AL02 therefore a student will have
to pass Lab-II (AE92) and Lab-III (AE93) only.
2.2.6 The student has also to pass the paper on
communication skill and technical writing (AE02). Project (AE18)and Seminar (AE36) since already passed he will be
considered to have passed these subjects in the revised syllabi.
2.3.1 Suppose a candidate of AMIETE(CS)
has passed the following courses in old syllabi
(a)
Core subjects 16
AC01,AC02, AC03, AC04, AC05, AC07,
AC08,
AC09,AC10, AC11, AC12, AC13,
AC14,
AC15,AC16, AC35, AL01, AL02.
(b) Elective - Nil
(c) Lab Exam - 2
(AL01,AL02)
2.3.2 In
this case there is no equivalency for AC09 and AC02 is a paper on Communication
Skills & Technical writing. The two subjects AC05 and AC06 have been merged
to a new subject AC52. Similarly, two
subjects AC08 and AC13 have been merged to a new subject AC59 in the revised
syllabi.
2.3.3 Following
methodology will be adopted for transition.
(a) (i) Total
No of subjects to be passed under revised
Syllabi
20
(ii) Total
No of subject passed by the candidate
under old Syllabi
15+
1
(iii) Balance
subject to be passed to complete AMIETE
5
(b) (i)
Core
subjects to be passed
under revised syllabi
13
(ii) Core
subjects passed by the candidate in old
scheme and have equivalency in revised syllabi
9+half
(iii) Balance
Core subjects to be passed
3+ (either
AC06
or AC52 )
(in this case AC05 will be additional
2.3.4 The
student has to pass 6 more subjects out of which 4 are core subjects. Out of these 4 core subjects one of the core subject AC52 is
equivalent to AC05 and AC06 of old syllabi. Now he has already done AC05, it
would be advisable to the student to pass AC06 before December 2010. He may also opt AC52 in which case there will not be
any weightage for AC05. After December 2010, a student will have to
opt for AC52 only. Thus the student has to pass 3 core subjects i.e. AE64,
AE66, AE68 and two more from electives.
However he is being given credit for all 15 subjects including the
merged subjects passed under old Syllabi.
2.3.5 Lab
Examination The student has passed Lab-I (AL01) and Lab-II (AL02) in old
syllabi. In the revised syllabus Lab-I(AC91)is
equivalent to AL01and AL02 (both). Also AC92 is equivalent to AL01in this case
therefore student has to pass only two Labs (Lab-III and Lab-IV)-AE93 &
AE94).
2.3.6
Besides
above the student has to pass Project & Seminar. The paper on communication
skill and technical writing has already been passed by him.
3.1
Example 1
3.1.1 Suppose a candidate of Diploma (ET) has passed the
following subjects under old syllabi.
(a) Core subjects 12
DE01, DE02, DE03, DE04, DE05,
DE06,
DE07,DE08, DE09,
DE11,DE12,
DE23.
(b) Elective -
NIL
(c) Lab Exam -
1
(DL01)
3.1.2
In this case two subjects DE05 and
DE06 have been merged to a revised syllabi subject DE52. Similarly, DE10 and DE14 have been merged to
a new subject DE53 . There is no equivalency of DE02
and DE03 in the revised syllabi.
3.1.3 Thus the equation is as follows.
(a) (i)
Total No of subjects to be passed under
revised
Syllabi
15
(ii)
Total
no of subject passed by the candidate
under
old Syllabi
12
(iii) Balance
subject to be passed to complete
DipIETE
3
(b) (i) Core
subjects to be passed under revised
Syllabi
9
(ii) Core
subjects passed by the candidate in
old
syllabi and have equivalency in revised
syllabi
7
(iii) Balance
Core subjects to be passed
(revised
syllabi)
2
3.1.4 Here, had he passed the three more papers in old syllabi, he
would have completed DipIETE. But in the revised syllabi, he has to pass
two core subjects and two elective to complete his DipIETE.
He has also to pass all the Lab examinations though he has passed Lab-I in old
syllabus.
4.2
Suppose a candidate of Diploma
(CS) has passed the following
subjects under old syllabus.
(a) Core subjects
13
DC01,
DC02, DC03, DC04,DC05,
DC06,
DC07,DC08,DC09, DC11& DC23.
(b) Elective -
2
(c) Lab Exam
-
2
DL01,DL02
4.2.1 In
this case two subjects DC03 and DE05 have been merged to a revised syllabi
subject DC52.
4.2.2
Thus the transition will be worked out as
follows.
(a) (i) Total No of subjects to be passed under
revised Syllabi
15
(ii)
Total no
of subject passed by the candidate
under old
Syllabi
13
(iii) Balance subject to be passed to complete
AMIETE
2
(b) (i) Core subjects to be
passed under revised
syllabi
10
(ii) Core subjects passed by the candidate in
old syllabi and have
equivalency in revised
syllabi
7
(iii) Balance
Core subjects to be passed
(revised syllabi)
3
4.2.3
The student has to pass three core courses besides Project.
4.2.4 Lab Exam- Since the student has passed DL01 and DL02 under old syllabus he will be exempted in DC91 and DC94. He has to pass DC92 and DC93.
