THE INSTITUTION OF ELECTRONICS AND TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERS (IETE)

 

Actions taken by IETE HQ after MHRD order of 10 July 2012 regarding de-recognition of IETE courses.

 

  1. The MHRD order is applicable to 14 Professional Societies and not only to IETE (it included Institution of Engineers, Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Aeronautical Society of India, Institution of Civil Engineers etc.)

 

  1. Detailed and strong representation was sent to Secretary MHRD against the order on 25th July 2012.

 

  1. President and two Past Presidents met Chairman AICTE .

 

  1. President and PRO met Dr Abdul Kalam, 11th President of Republic of India on 30 Dec 2013.

 

  1. President met Dr Pallam Raju, Hon’ble Minister of MHRD on 18 July 2013.

 

  1. President, Secretary General and PRO met Dr R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor of Government of India in Dec 2013.

 

  1. President and representative of HQ also met Shri Shashi Tharoor, Hon’ble Minister of State on 4th April 2013.

 

  1. President along with Vice President, Shri M L Gupta met Shri Sandeep Dixit, Member of Parliament on 4th April 2013.

 

  1. President, Secretary General and PRO met Shri Ashok Thakur, Secretary, MHRD in Oct 2013 and made personal strong representation.

 

  1. President, Secretary General and PRO met Prof Ved Prakash, Chairman UGC in Oct 2013.

 

  1. President met Prof D P Aggarwal, Chairman, UPSC on 3rd Jan 2014 who assured that IETE name will remain in UPSC advertisements (Employment news 22 to 28 Mar 2014 refers).

 

  1. Letters were written to Dr Manmohan Singh, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Smt Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson UPA, Shri Rahul Gandhi, Dr Sam Pitroda, Dr Pallam Raju, Hon’ble Minister of MHRD, Dr Shashi Tharoor, Hon’ble Minister of State and many other dignitaries.

 

  1. A meeting of all affected Professional Societies was organized on 5th Feb 2013 at IETE HQ to have a common stand and possible legal action.

 

  1. Almost over a period of six months, IETE HQs various official collected relevant papers and information under RTI to file the legal case.

 

  1. Power point presentation on IETE curriculum, courses and recognition etc was made on 7th Mar 2013 to Prof Sanjay Dhande Committee appointed by the AICTE. Prof Sanjay Dhande Committee report speaks high of IETE and suggests that Government should allow such Institutions to award degrees.

 

  1. President IETE, as member of AICTE Governing Council raised issue on 14 Feb 2013 and in many subsequent meetings.

 

LEGAL ACTION

 

  1. A writ petition against the MHRD orders was filed in the Hon’ble Delhi High Court on 13 May 2013 thru a Senior Advocate.

 

  1. The Hon’ble Delhi High Court after three hearings, on 23 May 2013 granted stay on the order of MHRD.

 

  1. Institution of Engineers approached Hon’ble Delhi High Court only on 31st May 2013 and the Hon’ble Delhi High Court clubbed all the petitions together.

 

  1. Subsequent hearings took place on : 6th August 2013, 9th Jan 2014 and next hearing is scheduled on 23 April 2014 in front of the Joint Registrar.

 

PRESENT STATUS

 

  1. MHRD recognition of IETE courses is still valid until final decision of Hon’ble Delhi High Court.

 

  1. IETE students continue to get Government Jobs.
