This issue of Technical Review marks the end of the year 2006 and contains four articles as well as a study paper of TRAI.


The first article is the review of the security in the mobile ad hoc networks by Gandhi and Dave. The article briefly describes features of the network, mentions about susceptibility to various security attacks due to its nature of functioning. According to authors, this mobile ad hoc network requires proactive and reactive security methodology to prevent attacks.

The second write up is a TRAI study paper which analyses various lifetime tariff schemes with long validity period of lifetime. Telecom service providers introduced affordable lifetime validity tariff plan to attract customers primarily to have lifetime incoming calls. TRAI analyses the scheme in detail through this paper and conclude that the scheme has been very popular in the market and has been one of the driving forces for the explosive growth of mobile segment and also the service providers have been getting reasonable revenue from subscribers.

The third article in this Review by Omar Farooq et al, is on wavelet based tamper proofing of digital images. The paper describes briefly, some water marking technologies. Water marking has now became important for digital media for tamper proofing as well as digital right management. The article describes how the wavelet based tamper proofing of images have been successfully tested. The authors conclude that with this, tampering of images can be detected easily.

The fourth article by B K Pandey et al, describes the design of dual frequency microstrip antenna on C & X bands. The authors state that this dual frequency shared aperture antenna design have been fabricated and tested by simulation and have found performance parameters within acceptable standards. The authors have tested aperture 2 × 2 array antenna and suggest that this array can be utilized as a basic building block larger size array.

The last article in the review by Choudhury and Gupta is a case study of Next Generation Network based on a pilot project specially relating to interconnection between operators. The study reveals the various aspects of interconnectivity and technical options like interconnect exchange etc and emerging scenario of interconnection in NGN environment.
