2. Introduction

 

IETE
       Founded in the year 1953 by a team of dedicated professionals, the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is a leading non-profit professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology. As on today, the IETE services 45,000 members both individuals and industries/ organizations from India and abroad. Government of India has recognized the Institution as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization and an Education Institute of national eminence.

Apex Forum
       One of its objectives is to bring together policy makers, policy implementers, academicians, researchers, practicing engineers and industrialists for meaningful exchange of ideas. IETE Apex Forum aims to achieve this objective to provide a platform for exchange of meaningful ideas and by formulating an action plan to be actively pursued for the advancement of profession. This Forum is committed to addressing important issues and problems concerning the Industry and to discuss, debate and follow-up the recommendations to their logical conclusion through interaction with Govt Departments like DOE, DST, DOT and academic institutions.
        The following Round Table Conferences under the Apex Forum have already been held and their recommendations submitted to policy makers, in these vitally important areas.

Objective of the Ninth Apex Forum

The objective of the conference is to discuss and identify:
  • What kind of technology we need for media.
  • What is the future of the print media.
  • What guidelines are needed for security of information
  • What should be the quality of contents for dissemination
  • What kind of controls should be exercised over the media
  • What price concessions should be available to the media for the use of high-tech world class infrastructure
  • How DTH and cable can be used for spreading education among the masses
